North Wales Cross Country League

NWCC League - Home Page

Welcome to the new website for the North Wales Cross-Country League.  On here we'll share details of fixtures and results.  Please use the forum for discussion and suggestions.

1 December:  I (Tom Annable!) have added an excel file which collates current standings in the leagues.  It also includes standings in each of the age categories.  I hope you find it useful but please note that it is an unofficial sheet (and it may contain errors)!  You'll find a link to it on the results page.

30 November:  The full results of the third match of 09/10 season at Bangor are now available on the results page.

Despite the weather (gales and driving rain!) there was another good turnout.  Our thanks to Maggie Oliver, Arwel Lewis and Steve Livett who convinced Bangor University officials that we would look after their fields – I can tell you that earlier in the week it had looked as if we would have to cancel the meeting.

Congratulations to Griff Owens (Prestatyn) on winning the Over 60 male section at the British and Irish Cross Country International in Birmingham.  Emyr Davies (Eryri) and Marilyn Kitching (Tattenhall) were also third in the M65 and W40 categories with Griff and Marilyn, aided by Denise Sanders (Telford) leading Wales to outstanding team victories.  Our League was very well represented at the prestigious event with Wrexham pair, Bernard Jones and Alison Whitelaw, deserving praise as Welsh team managers for leading their country to a fine third place overall.

The winter’s fourth Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross Country League fixture will be held at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Cefn Road, Wrexham (LL13 9NG) on Saturday, January 16th 2010.  See Fixtures for details.

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i bawb!

26 November.  Still waiting for the full results for the NWXC at Bangor to be typed up.  Sorry for the wait.  Meantime you can see the leading positions on the Power of 10 website.

21 November: The results of the Energy Solutions Junior XC league match at Bangor on the 21st November and the League final standings are now on the results page.

21 October: The entry form for the North Wales XC Championships has been added to the new "Entry Forms" page.

16 October:  The latest round of the senior league was held at Bridgnorth on 10th October:  Another good afternoon with a fine turnout.  Many thanks to you all for your support despite the problems leading up to this particular meeting.  Happily everything turned out fine with Margaret Kelcher and Paul Sanderson of Telford AAC and our Chairman, George Tudor, deserving our thanks in ensuring the fixture went ahead.  It would be interesting to know your thoughts about the venue – would you prefer a return to Lilleshall or is the course at Oldbury Wells School a better option?

We continue to have concerns about cross country runners and supporters bringing their dogs with them to our meetings.  As a result of an incident at Bridgnorth on Saturday we will be writing to the club of the person concerned asking them to remind their member of the resolution passed at the AGM.  Remember that if dogs are not controlled properly we could lose venues so if you must bring them with you PLEASE take care.

Please take more care in putting correct veteran categories on their team sheets.  A number of runners have been entered in different age groups at Bridgnorth than they were at Colwyn Bay.  REMEMBER veteran ages are determined by your age on the day of the winter’s first meeting so this season it will be September 26th 2009.  Thank you.

The third meeting of the season will be hosted by Eryri Harriers at Bangor University’s Treborth Playing Fields on Saturday, November 21st 2009.  See

26 September:  Colwyn Bay:  What a great start to the 2009 -2010 season !! A total of 299 athletes completed their races with the women setting a new record for their section. The 102 finishers was 15 more than had finished at Bangor last November – well done, ladies.

Thank you to the clubs who have paid their £ 40 affiliation fees –PLEASE remember that they are due by the date of the next meeting.

The North Wales clubs should note that our Championships will now be held on Saturday, January 30th,2010 and not as previously advertised. Welsh Athletics, again without consultation, have decided that their Championships will be held on the weekend of February 20th/21st, 2010, leaving our preferred date free. The Rhug Organic North Wales Cross Country Championships will be held at the Rhug Estate just to the west of Corwen on the A5. Prestatyn RC will host the event BUT all Clubs will be expected to help with the Marshalling – names to be submitted to Gareth Hughes (01745 888078).
